cha chi ka was inspired by Indian drumming solfege I heard during a concert in Boston several years ago. Combining voices and percussion was intriguing; this piece involves interplay not only between the percussionists and vocalists, but amongst the voices as well. It begins in aleatoric fashion and moves into a tribal rhythm. The piece also explores some antiphonal ideas, as the voices provided a vehicle to utilize space as well as sound.
